The Shibuya Witch

Your first trip to the country of Japan quickly goes awry as you find yourself trapped in a house filled with magical artifacts. Try as you might you are unlikely to escape the wrath of the Shibuya Witch.

Much thanks to the authors of games like Jailbait and Tales of Lust and Delacroix. I was very inspired by them.

This isn't truly a review, but as someone who's been using the site since 2014, i want to adress how awesome this quaint game is. I've spent dozens of hours on rags and played probably 50 rags games, and it took even me a good 10 hours and a lot of errors to get it to work on win10 in 2022, so I'm not sure how many people will end up playing it.

That said, even though it's short and doesn't have much complexity, it's very well made. The writing is pretty nice, the bad ends make enough sense and are satisfying to get with the TFs that accompany them, the pictures are very good. There's not too much to say, but for some reason i found myself on this page and wanted to say that it's a shame that the creator of this game was only active for about 45 minutes to upload this game, a future game by this guy with some extra length could've been awesome.

If for whatever reason you're able to play RAGS games currently, i highly recommend you check this out even if you'll only get 15-60 minutes of content depending on whether you use a guide to get the endings or figure them out yourself.

v1.0.0:

It's an enjoyable, if short, RAGS game. Writing is good, pictures fit the setting and it has a decent amount of interactions despite its length.

Worth a go. Watch out for the dead-ends and save often.

Still recommended. RAGS file is unlocked if you want to figure out the current 8 endings available.

A very short and sweet game and probably my favorite RAGS game and I've played most of the ones on this site. Partially because I have yellow fever, partially because I think it's one of the few RAGS games that understands that RAGS is not meant for actual video games (not that something like say, Cursed, isn't an actual video game) and doesn't really make things complicated. Literally one button after the introduction and you get arguably the best ending. It's something the things it claims as an inspiration don't get (although Tales is still alright). I can't say much more because it's so short. Just if you're reading this however many years later, play it.

A short (<1 hour total playtime) but complete experience, featuring a small world, 8 different endings, and a strong theme. I also appreciate the cleverness of the entire premise being about Japanese xenophobia.

A few of the endings are easy to find, whereas others require a little bit of exploration (or repetition), and more still require you to employ a little bit of critical thought, Nothing too difficult, and the game is short enough that there's no reason not to find them all. You could easily get by even without any saves, as the game is short enough that they only slightly cut down on your total playtime. I recommend saving once after you encounter a non-ending transformation.

Thoroughly refreshing for this game to be properly complete, even if very small.

A good game for showing what it looks like for an author to know what they want to present and how to get there. The game is small but well implemented with fairly obvious cause and effect for everything you can do. The writing is good, and the pictures are well chosen.

It's hard to give hints without spoiling stuff because the game is short and sweet. So here is my super-quick guide. Four endings relate to how you deal with one problem, three of them relate to how you deal with separate objects in the house.

I recommend this game for anyone who wants to see what a solidly done rags game looks like.
