Silent Echo

A contest entry for The Future 2124!

The company has called on you to investigate the now silent Installation Echo. Initial field reports mention sightings of strange latex-like creatures who appear to have taken over the facility.

Search for the truth in a secret research facility while braving peril and unknown creatures that threaten to change your entire identity every time you face them. Seek out allies, in any form that they may take to help you navigate the depths of Installation Echo. Animated scenes, and a unique blend of extraction looter and text based gameplay accompany a dark storyline about corporate secrets and unethical research. Keep an eye out for collectable weapons and upgrade materials, you'll be needing them to truly survive and even thrive as you carry out your mission.

The storyline will see you dive deep into Installation Echo, where you'll encounter various aliens that all are able to corrupt and transform others. Initially, you'll likely be resistant to these changes, but as you go deeper, will the advantages to the changes outweigh the risks? Additionally, the game has an intentionally light cast of side characters, focusing instead on repeating combat encounters that can all lead you down various paths, both in terms of long reaching decisions and short term gratification.

Finally, the game is much more focused on a linear story direction, and while there will still be a large freedom of choice, the intent here is that you are always moving towards a clearly defined goal, which for the most part will be your initial missions resolution. Various events and situations along the way might change you and your companions in ways you couldn't dream of, but at the end of the day, you are still an elite operative sent in to get the job done, no matter what it takes.

Featuring animated scenes, a unique blend of extraction looter and text based gameplay, the game revolves around a dark storyline about corporate secrets and unethical research. Keep an eye out for collectable weapons and upgrade materials, you'll be needing them to truly survive and even thrive as you carry out your mission.

It's been a lot of fun for us to work on this thing and we're glad we finished something playable and decent in time for the contest's deadline. We're looking forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback!

I like it fights little uneven but good game story.

I really agree with what the two other reviews say. Interesting story, pretty good game loop, good UI, nice graphics. Definitely a 'must watch'.

I don't like the grind for resin, it seems pretty unachievable without constantly losing the fights. Maybe I'm missing something but, you don't get enough resin from the enemies to repair the armour damage they cause so you have to live in your health only which means constantly going back the the hideout to rest. It seems really unnatural, and not at all plot driven.

Really nice game for what content there is during chapter 1. Personally I enjoyed the gameplay much more than I expected from a game like this and the art and UI design are miles ahead of most games of this type. Strongly recommend people to check it out, even if you're not that into drone tf (like me) since the game seems quite good even with it's limited tf content at the moment.

I very much hope to see some new bad ends and transformations added in the following chapters, hope to see more soon.

I have finished playing through the main route and overall I have to say that this game is excellent! Mechanically well-designed with a great UI, excellent writing, awesome custom art, and overall a well-built core gameplay loop. I made a donation on Itch.io because I definitely enjoyed my time with it and am very much looking forward to future updates. Since the game is early-on and the devs are looking for feedback, I am going to provide a series of nitpicks below. They are NITPICKS, and did very little to hurt my overall enjoyment of the game.

  • The plot hook and intro sequence need a slight rework in my opinion, because right now the premise of the game is that we are stranded on this facility and need to follow a series of steps to access the communication terminal and call for help. Yet when we arrive we are in a vehicle, and have communication with base via our radio. Nothing in the intro sequence that I saw explains why our escape vehicle and suit radio are not solutions to the "stranded and cut-off" problem. I believe a scene of some form to provide a plot excuse for disabling both the vehicle and our radio would help the initial premise a great deal.
  • It is nice to have weapon choice, but right now as far as I can tell the shotgun is just the better weapon and there is no reason to use our assault rifle once we unlock it. Perhaps the second attack slot can be changed between the weapons to give an actual reason to pick the AR in certain situations?
  • (SPOILER) Ava's drone evolution is a great concept, but I find it a bit odd that it is stated in text that every time she gets a drone kill she gets a bit taller and gets larger breasts, yet after five drone kills, her evolved form is the same image with a change only made to her head. I understand that it's not feasible to make new images for the aftermath of every drone kill, but i'd expect the new images we get after her evolution to feature her specified larger bust and higher heels. If that's too much art burden then that's fine, but then the dialogue should be removed. There are similar issues seemingly coming for Emilia's route too, as the text specifies changes to her body that I'd expect to be reflected in images after a certain amount of corruption.
  • (SPOILER) Prior to the final battle of this version, it is not obvious that we are supposed to get the armor off the body of Agent 11 if we hit corruption level 2. I reached that corruption level, lost twice to the Guardian, resigned myself to grinding for Resin for a bit to upgrade my outfit, and then found that step by sheer chance. Given that this change alone let me beat the Guardian, it should be hinted at more agressively in the text IMO.

Anyway those are my nitpicks, but again, none of the above takes away from the fact that this a great game even in its current state, and I would already recommend people trying it even in the current early version. I can't wait to see how future updates make it even better!
