Succubus Rivalry
by bsharp

You play as a succubus from Hell. Demon Lord Gigamath has sent you and five of your sisters to Tellus. Your mission is to drain humans and use the energy to destroy the barrier between Hell and Tellus so Lord Gigamath can make the journey himself. The succubus who does the most damage to the barrier will become Lord Gigamath's bride and reign as Queen of Tellus for all eternity.

Initially, you're very weak with a poor human form. You'll hunt for prey among the downtrodden in sleazy locales. As you harvest energy, you'll have many options to spend it. Will you degrade the barrier? Will you improve your human form and abilities? Will you attack (transform) the other succubae? If you're greedy, you may kill your prey but that risks attracting attention from the hunters. Don't do enough to eliminate the barrier and you'll face Gigamath's wrath.

Have too much fun with the prey and you'll orgasm...not a good thing for a succubus. You'll lose energy and damage your magical human form. As your power increases, you can choose more challenging prey for greater reward.

The whole time, your rivals will be making the same decisions. If you get to powerful or too popular with Gigamath, your rivals will target you. But, if you don't do enough, you'll lose favor with Gigamath.

I created this game using Twine for the 'Competition' contest.  I wanted to see if I could create something that was more 'game' than 'story'.  It's currently text-only with short descriptions.  Please send me your bugs and suggestions on the comments page.

UPDATE 1/30/2023.  I believe I've fixed the "501 errors".

You're a succubus, sent to Tellus by the Demon Lord Gigamath.

As a demon, you have scaly red skin, red eyes, horns and a barbed tail. In order to functon among the humans on Tellus, you must use magic to mask your true nature with a human form. Getting that form just right is tremendously difficult.

**Energy** is your currency. You'll use it to upgrade your form, add to your abilities, fix things that go wrong, and cast battle magic if a *hunter* catches up with you.

If your energy hits 0, you lose.

The maximum energy you can store is $MaxEnergy.

**Hunting**
You get energy by draining humans. You'll find your prey in different locations.

- Seedy Bar. This is where you should start. You might get lucky in a more challenging location, but the odds are against you. Even here, you may have several failures until you've upgraded your human form. The downside of the Seedy Bar is that the men here (on average) provide less energy and are more easily killed.

-- Nightclub. If you're really good, do your hunting here. You'll get more energy.

-- Gay Bar. If someone gives you a dick and it's causing too much trouble in other locations, try the Gay Bar. But, even here, you'll find that many potential victims are only interested in cis men. Difficulty should be somewhere between the Seedy Bar and the Nightclub.

After you pick a location, your succubus senses will show you some facts about the (procedurally generated fresh every time) men there. Your succubus senses will never lie to you. But, when your ability is weak, they won't provide much info.

Pick a victim and find out if he's interested. You only get one shot each day. If you fail, that's it...try again tomorrow.

Each potential victim has a set of attributes such as how much energy he produces, how many feedings he can provide before dying, and how good he is in bed.

His attributes also include what he's looking for in a woman. If you have exactly what he wants (exactly the right size breasts, for example) you get a bonus to seduction. If you have more than he wants, that's not usually a problem, but it's not a bonus. If you don't have enough, you lose points. He will consider your beauty, breast size, and breast firmness. If your demon form is showing, that will hurt your chances. If he doesn't like dicks, having one will hurt your chances.

Once you've seduced the human and got them in bed, it's a trivial matter for a succubus (even one with a less pretty form) to bring him to orgasm and drain some of his energy.

In the process of bringing him to orgasm, you'll become aroused yourself. How much depends on the human's skill, attractiveness, and dick size. Your arousal will vary depending on your vulnerability to the particiular technique he uses as well as whether or not you have a dick and how big it is. Having a dick makes you more easily aroused by everything.

If the human makes you cum, you will lose a random amount of energy and your human form will be damaged. Seeing some of your demonic form, the human will flee, making it impossible for you to drain any more of his energy.

After you've made the human cum, you get some energy. If the human is still alive, you can try to make them cum again for more energy. The risk is that they might make you cum, or you might kill them.

***Hunters*** Imagine them as a mystical order that uses magic to protect Tellus from demons and other threats. So far, they're all male.

They can...
- gain energy by meditating.
- upgrade their abilities
- partially restore the barrier
- train acolytes and increase the number of hunters
- hunt down succubae and engage them in sex battle

If you upgrade your succubus senses enough, you'll get to know exactly what the *hunters* are up to.

When humans are killed, it raises the probability that *hunters* will go out looking for succubae. Currently, that probability maxes at a 20% chance each active *hunter* will hunt on any given day after succubae kills exceed 10. This is subject to change as the game is tweaked.

When a *hunter* catches a succubus, sex battle ensues. Whoever cums first loses and is removed from the game. If you lose a sex battle with a *hunter*, your game is over. If you win, you get a good amount of energy.

Theoretically, you and your sisters should be working together to destroy the barrier for Gigamath. But, there can be only one bride, one Queen of Tellus. So, as the barrier weakens and victory seems likely, your sisters will become steadily more jealous. They'll use their magic to sabotage each other, and you.

These are some reasons for their attack decisions:
- whoever targeted them last (revenge)
- whoever is winning (favor with Gigamath)
- whoever has harvested the most energy while being targeted the least (jealous)
- random (dislike)

You, being the player, have the option to go dirty whenever you want. You also have one ability that the other succubae don't have (yet). You can frame someone else for your dirty deeds. If successful, this will make any revenge attacks go against someone else.

**Gigamath** can't intervene directly on Tellus. He spent all his energy getting you succubae here and giving you bodies. But, he can see what's happening. If you make him unhappy, you're less likely to become his bride.

Gigamath may get upset with whichever succubus...
- has done the least to destroy the barrier
- has the most unused energy saved

When there's a tie, you lose.

The *only* way to gain favor with Gigamath is to spend energy destroying the barrier.

When the barrier reaches zero (0), the game is over. Gigamath can now make the journey from Hell to Tellus. At the end of that day, whichever succubus has the highest favor with Gigamath wins (is named Queen of Tellus and becomes his bride). The other five lose (will be peons for all enternity).

0.7.1   1/30/2023   Fixed the "501 errors" with random allocation of weaknesses.

This is a hidden gem that just needs a bit more time in the oven to be something exceptional.

As of 0.7, view the prolog if you like, but you'll need to skip to weakness allocation in order to play the game. Do so and you'll find an excellent 'number goes up, player gets sexier' kind of game. TF-ing the rival characters and being able to deal with them is great mechanically and thematically, as well as needing to manage your own TFs so you can have sufficient energy to act further. To say nothing of the 'hunter' faction, how they influence the progression and so on.

The core loop is excellent.

What impresses me the most is that this is all done in Harlowe! I'd expect something with this many moving parts to be done in SugarCube!

6/10, wait for a few bug fixes then it'll be 12/10, mark my review.

I start the game and there are immediately 501 errors.  It may be a good idea to go back and release this when it's ready.
